Oxygen cost of glideboarding at selected cadences and distance

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to measure the oxygen cost, energy expenditure, and heart rate of glideboarding at selected cadences and distance. The subjects were healthy males (N=30), 19 to 32 years old. They glideboarded at the cadences of 42, 48, and 54 bpm and distance of 1.73 m until steady rate was achieved. [Ten of t îe subjects repeated the protocol for test-retest reliability.^ The oxygen cost was 23.6, 26.7, and 31.8 ml/kg/min for the respective cadences of 42, 48, and 54 bpm. A one-way ANOVA for repeated measures and Tukey’s post-hoc tests indicated significant (p <0.05) differences among the cadences. Pearson correlation coefficients and correlated t tests were determined for test-retest data. There were strong correlations of r=0.83, 0.94, and 0.93 for the respective cadences and all t values were not significant (p> 0.05). The results indicated that the oxygen cost of glideboarding was comparable to other forms of aerobic exercise. Therefore, it can be assumed that glideboarding may be incorporated into a weight loss or training program. Due to the lack of published data, it is suggested that the oxygen cost of glideboarding be further investigated.

Cocontraction and economy of triathletes and cyclists at different cadences during cycling motion.
The purpose of this study was to compare the cycling technique of triathletes and cyclists on the basis of the cocontraction of selected muscles of the lower limbs and economy at different cadences. The economy (EC) and percent cocontraction from nine triathletes and eight cyclists were compared at 60, 75, 90 and 105 rpm cadences. Tests were performed on two separate days. The maximal oxygen up...

The effective force applied on the crank, the index of pedalling effectiveness, and the economy of movement at 60, 75, 90, and 105 rev/min cadences were examined in nine cyclists and eight triathletes. Tests were performed on two days. Maximal oxygen uptake was measured and the second ventilatory threshold was estimated on day 1 using a stationary bicycle. On day 2, the four different cadences ...

Stepping is a convenient form of scalable high-intensity interval training (HIIT) that may lead to health benefits. However, the accurate personalised prescription of stepping is hampered by a lack of evidence on optimal stepping cadences and step heights for various populations. This study examined the acute physiological responses to stepping exercise at various heights and cadences in young ...

In this study, 10 normal volunteers and 5 sports-trained paraplegics with lesions between T6 and L2 were studied whilst walking with axillary crutches and knee-anlde-foot orthoses. All subjects walked at their preferred speed on a figureof- eight track. Normal subjects also walked at slower and faster speeds. Oxygen consumption, heart rate and rating of perceived exertion were measured. In...
